Strategic Business Communications would like to award the OOZE Award for February 2013 to Nick Steckel with Karl Strauss Brewing Company. The OOZE Award is our way to show our appreciation for the outstanding customer service and excellent delivery provided by Nick Steckel.
In 1989 two entrepreneurs named Chris Cramer and Matt Rattner opened the doors to the first new brewpub to be opened in San Diego in over 50 years; Karl Strauss Brewing Company. The grand opening was a huge success. So much so, that they ran out of beer within weeks. This was due in large part to Chris’ cousin, Karl Strauss, working as a consultant and eventually Master Brewer for the new microbrewery. In his twenties Karl studied brewing and earned is Master Brewer Certification in Bavaria, the brewing capital of Germany. He eventually made it stateside and had an illustrious career in the brewing industry. Today Karl Strauss Brewing Company is a massive success brewing over 30 beers a year, opening 5 more restaurants, and distributing to over 2,500 bars, restaurants and stores in Southern California. Karl’s belief that “everyone should enjoy life, preferably with good friends and good beer” is still carried on to this day.
We want to show that the standard of service is just a standard, but those who go above and beyond should be recognized and awarded. That is how we developed the OOZE Award. We want to express our gratitude to Nick Steckel with Karl Strauss Brewing Company for demonstrating what we at SBC believe to be outstanding, not only in theory but in the practice of our entire team.

When he introduced himself, he had two samples of beer and was very warm and friendly. I had forgotten to include a detail in my lunch order and when it was mentioned to him, he was happy to talk to the kitchen for me. Nick brought us more samples of beer throughout lunch, tailored to what each of us were eating and explained why they paired up so well. He was very knowledgeable and was able to answer our questions easily. Thanks to Nick, we had a wonderful Valentine’s Day lunch!”
